Our Story
It all started back in 2005 when our founder, John Smith, discovered a passion for woodworking. He began building furniture as a hobby in his garage, learning everything he could about carpentry, joinery, and furniture design. What began as a creative pastime quickly grew into something more as friends and family clamored for John’s handmade chairs, tables, and more.
Encouraged, John made the leap into entrepreneurship and officially launched Duomay® Furniture in 2010. The name “Duomay” pays homage to John’s love for two things: his wife, May, and their duo partnership in creating this business.
In the early days, Duomay was a one-man operation with John hand-crafting each piece. As word spread of his talent, custom orders started pouring in faster than he could keep up. John brought on his first few employees in 2012 to help meet demand. Since then, we’ve grown steadily as a company while staying true to our roots in quality, handmade furniture.
Today, Duomay comprises a close-knit team of 15 artisans, woodworkers, and support staff. We operate out of a 10,000 square foot workshop outfitted with the latest woodworking machinery. This enables us to produce consistent, high-quality furniture while maintaining our commitment to handmade craftsmanship.

Our Process
Producing heirloom-quality furniture is an intensive, labor-of-love process:
1. Design
Our in-house design team sketches initial concepts and creates detailed technical drawings. We pour over every dimension, joint, and element to ensure both form and function are maximized. Customers can provide their own specifications for a truly personalized piece.
2. Material Selection
The lumberyard is our canvas. We hand-select each wood type, grain pattern, and cut to perfectly suit the final design. For most pieces, we use locally sourced maple, walnut, oak, and cherry. Beyond wood, we procure the finest upholstery fabrics and foams.
3. Woodworking
This is where the magic happens. Our skilled woodworkers cut, join, lathe, carve, and sand each component. Different techniques like mortise and tenon joints or dovetails are used depending on the piece. We allow the natural beauty of the wood to shine through with minimal stains and clear coats.
4. Assembly
Once every millimeter of the individual components meets our rigorous quality control standards, they are ready for assembly. Our woodworkers carefully put each piece together using clamps, glue, fasteners, and lots of skill.
5. Finishing Touches
After assembly comes sanding, filling any holes or gaps, staining if needed, and applying the protective clear coat finish. We check for any imperfections and correct them by hand. Lastly, felt pads are applied to the bottoms of legs or bases to protect your floors.
6. Quality Control
Before any piece can ship, it must pass inspection by our Quality Control team. They scour every inch of the furniture looking for flaws and test structural integrity. Our high standards mean we would rather remake something than deliver a defective product.
7. Packaging & Shipping
Finally, your furniture is carefully packaged in recyclable materials to avoid damage during shipment. We ship worldwide directly from our workshop to your door.
